A Christmas Carol
Winter Season 2020
Charles Dickens wrote a perfect story – A story where ghosts give a man perspective, and that man chooses to use that perspective to change the lives of everyone around him for the better. Keeping as much of the original dialogue from the book as possible, Oregon Adventure Theatre has taken Charles Dickens’s perfect five hour book, and transformed it into a one hour wonderland performance of masks, puppets, hats and scarves.
The adaptation is so thick with magic that it seems to drip out of the edges. It transports the audiences to a time they used to pretend to be pirates, princesses, lost boys, ghosts, and adventurers - A time long before they’d ever worried about war and politics, or taxes and traffic. Back when the only thing that mattered was finishing your dinner as fast as you could, so you could keep on adventuring with your friends.
The play is a perfect fit for adults and children alike. Combining spectacular puppets with traditional Commedia Dellarte’ masks, 4 actors are able to play more than 25 different characters throughout the play. The production feels like diving into a cartoon world, larger than life, and moves like a run away train. It’s very akin to a Jim Henson Muppet film.
The audience is encouraged to sing along with all the Christmas songs and is even invited to a theatre wide, indoor safe, snowball fight!
This is not a production you will soon forget, nor one you want to miss.
